Job Description

Our client a Big 4 Firm is looking for a US tax manager for its offices in Bermuda and also for the BVI.

As a Manager, you will use experience in accounting, law and taxation to provide compliance and consulting services to a portfolio of United States clients. The successful candidate must be experienced with the tax compliance and consulting process and have the professionalism necessary for the effective diagnosis, development and implementation of solutions for our clients' tax needs. You will be responsible for a portfolio of clients on a day to day basis which will include planning, management of the team including review of work, liaison with key client staff and the management of the reporting process. Given the variety in the size of our clients you will have direct exposure to senior members of the client executive and report directly to a Partner on most engagements. As a Manager you will be required to undertake business travel both regionally and globally. This position is available in either our British Virgin Islands or Bermuda office.

Primary responsibilities:

  • Manage a portfolio of clients to involve planning, budgeting, WIP management, management of the team, allocation of resources, reviewing subordinates’ work and reporting
  • Review complex tax returns, memoranda and other tax compliance filings; Areas of compliance may include US income tax, cross border tax, mergers & acquisitions, withholding tax, personal income tax, FATCA compliance, and other foreign asset filing requirements
  • Organize and execute client engagements while acting as a trusted business advisor
  • Communicate with and assist our clients in their dealings with US, local and international tax authorities as appropriate
  • Provide superior consultative tax advice to help our clients achieve tax savings by pursuing creative tax strategies
  • Mentor and coach your team to help them reach their highest potential by completing staff appraisals and providing feedback on an ongoing basis
  • Interest in further developing reputation and expertise in a given industry/service line
  • Contribute to practice growth and business development to include building brand in the marketplace (proposal writing, events, public speaking, article writing, targeted marketing initiatives)
  • Focus on managing the practice to include strategy, profitability, developing capabilities, recruitment, training, and managing quality and risk

 

Expected Experience

  • Bachelors in Accounting, Finance, LLB or related field with strong academic credentials (GPA of 3.2 or above) required; specialization in tax preferred
  • Internationally recognized professional accounting qualification required: CPA, CA or Enrolled Agent
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in US tax compliance, preferably with 1 year in a managerial position and at least 1 year in the Financial Services focusing on Insurance and/or Investment Management

  • Advanced degree of competence with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook & relevant tax return preparation software
  • Ability to work well in a culturally diverse team-oriented environment and independently
